Hinds Circuit Drug Court graduation set for December 13 December 11, 2017 Corrections Commissioner Pelicia Hall will be the guest speaker at the Dec. 13 graduation ceremony of the Hinds County Circuit Drug Court. The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Hinds County Courthouse at 407 East Pascagoula Street in Jackson. 
Circuit Judge Winston Kidd, who oversees the Hinds Circuit Drug Court, will preside. Twenty-one participants set to graduate make up the largest graduating group in the Hinds County Circuit Drug Court’s history, Judge Kidd said. The program began operations in 2000. About 160 participants are enrolled in the Hinds County Circuit Drug Court. As Commissioner of Corrections, Hall oversees three state prisons, three private prisons, 15 regional facilities, 10 community work centers, three technical violation centers and four restitution centers. The Department of Corrections has more than 2,000 employees, more than 19,000 inmates and nearly 27,000 people under parole and probation supervision. Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Hall as Commissioner of Corrections on March 6. She had served as chief of staff to former Corrections Commissioner Marshall Fisher, and had previously served as lead counsel to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics under Fisher’s direction. Drug courts seek to rehabilitate drug-using offenders through drug treatment and intense supervision with drug testing and frequent court appearances. Drug courts offer the incentive of a chance to remain out of jail, and the sanction of a jail sentence if participants fail to remain drug-free and in compliance with all program requirements. Statewide, more than 3,600 people are enrolled in 42 drug courts. There are 22 adult felony programs, 14 juvenile programs, three misdemeanor programs and three family drug courts. #### |
